Young sp: The post-juvenile moult includes the body, LC, MC, a variable number of GC (93% of our birds at Ottenby included 3-9 GC, but range includes 0-10), 0-3 tertials and often some (sometimes even all) RR. Jenni & Winkler (1994) mentions rare cases with more extensive moult, including PP (perhaps more common in southern populations?). Conversely, a few birds (probably from late broods) may show unmoulted juvenile plumage even during winter, see e.g. Senar (1988).
Adult SC: The post-breeding moult includes the whole plumage. |
